About Spanglish and reasons why you can and shouldn't use it
Spanglish is a combination of English and Spanish, most predominantly in Spanish-speaking people who learn and use English as a foreign or second language.
Feel free
to use as many words as you like.
Sometimes
it happens that we cannot find the exact word to describe a particular thing,
feeling, characteristic or situation. Translating from one language to another
gives us the peace of mind of knowing that we are really trying to say what we
want to express.
Writing and
speaking can be faster.
The fact
that you don't have to find the precise translation of the word or phrase you
need to use saves you time. Think less and produce verbally or in written form
in a lesser amount of time.
Demonstrate
that you are really so proud to be a Latino.
Although there are many people who do not feel like " revealing " their Latin roots when speaking in English, Spanglish allows in a very "cool" way to say "Hey, I Speak two languages and my brain can run two linguistic processes at the same time". The advantages of Spanglish also have their downside.
Your mind becomes sluggish.
When we
stop making the effort to think in the language in which we need to
communicate, soon our minds will believe that it is okay not to do so.
Eventually, we will lose vocabulary and even grammatical structures as we will
get to the point of saying "It's okay, I don't need this".
It will be
very difficult for you in an exam.
The grammar
of any language has clear and precise rules. Using Spanglish excessively can
lead to it taking longer than ideal to find the correct answer when taking a
test, the line between "correct" and "incorrect" will
become very blurred.
People can
think that you only want to flaunt your skills.
Overuse of Spanglish can lead to "hate" on the part of the monolinguals, it could be perceived as an intended wish to undermine the use of Spanish vocabulary.
